The Famous Speech of British Airways Chairman

Sir Martin Broughton, the Chairman of British Airways, gave a speech to Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in London on aviation security.

He said: “Is it sensible to run exactly the same security checks on pilots – each and every time they fly – as, for example, a Yemeni student?”

Broughton said, “concerns that this would amount to profiling of passengers at airports were “misplaced.”Making everybody suffer inconvenience in the name of uniformity doesn’t make any sense at all and reduces the quality of security by dissipating resources.”

In his speech, he criticized the security checks made on the passengers who are travelling from UK to US. This has also led to a board member selected for an extra round of screening before he was allowed to board the flight.

He also suggested that there should be scope for “security light” for passengers who are trusted or those who travel very frequently on business purposes.

He claimed that the entire security system should be passenger-friendly so that the passengers are not harassed or they feel hurt.

He wanted to enhance the security systems by adding more technology in the security process. Holistic security measures should be implied.
