Unite Loses Out to British Airways in Court, Yet Again

The never ending battle between the workers union, Unite and British Airways took a turn for the worst for the union, as it was not successful in convincing a court that the airline had acted illegally in sacking its cabin crew. The decision by the Court of Appeals regarding the case has upheld the judgment handed down by a High Court earlier in the year.

According to the verdict passed by the court, British Airway’s decision to reduce the number of employees was not a breach of contract and was taken by the airline carrier, while keeping in mind it’s powers. Following the judgment, Unite has refused to comment on the verdict handed out by the Court of Appeals.

However, Unite still happens to have another try at fighting the case, as it would be able to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.

While responding to the verdict by the court, British Airways stated that it was happy with the judgment. It further added that the changes made by the flight carrier had brought significant relief to the financial condition of the Company.

The dispute between British Airways and Unite had erupted, after last year in the month of November. The airline Company had then announced the reduction in the number of members in the cabin crew of long distance flight from the Heathrow Airport in London.
