BAA Experiences Downfall in June Because of BA Strike

Because of constant disturbance from the BA strike, UK airport operator, BAA has said that the number of passengers using its airports have decreased in June.

BAA has confirmed that the number of passengers have decreased by 1.7% in June, as compared to June 2009.

BAA said that they have been expecting the same number of passengers this year, if the impact of the strike would not have affected the traffic.

The six airports operated by BAA are Heathrow, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Stansted, Edinburgh and Southampton.

The majority of airports have been owned by Spanish firm Ferrovial, which sold Gatwick for £1.5bn, last year.

This year, British Airways cabin crew was on strike for a total of 22 days because of the long-running industrial dispute.

The airline notified that last month, it carried 2.57 million people, which has now decreased by 11% compared to June 2009.

Glasgow airport of BAA has experienced the most terrible turn down, as there is a 7% decrease compared with the same month, a year earlier.

In the meantime, Stansted has faced a fall in passenger numbers of 5.2%, although, BA does not fly from that airport.
